Burlington County Public Works is now hiring:

INSPECTOR TRAINEE MOSQUITO EXTERMINATION

  

Burlington County Public Works- Mosquito Division is looking for (1) one full time candidate to be an Inspector Trainee Mosquito Extermination.

Duties: Under direction and close supervision as a trainee and productive worker, performs work involved in learning to locate and recognize mosquito breeding areas. Performs visual inspections of mosquitoes in breeding areas  (for example, ditches, private roads, or other similar areas where stagnant water exists) to site evidence of their presence.

Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

LICENSE: In 1 year must obtain a valid certificate as a commercial pesticide applicator issued by the New jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.

Benefits & Salary

Brief Description of Job and Division/Department

Morris County Department of Public Works, Division of Mosquito Control is currently accepting applications for Inspector Trainee, Mosquito Extermination. Under direction and supervision, performs work involved in learning to locate and recognize mosquito breeding areas, control mosquito populations and does other related duties as required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Performs visual inspections of mosquitoes in their habitats such as ditches, swamps, stagnant water
  • Learns to select and apply appropriate chemical and biological controls to mosquito habitat
  • Responds to service requests and inquiries from the public

May perform minor maintenance work on extermination equipment such as oil change, replacement of belts, and minor repairs to maintain equipment in working order.

Qualifications

Appointees will be required to possess a valid New Jersey driver's license. Successful candidates must become a licensed Pesticide Applicator. Needs to have the ability to understand information about insects, particularly mosquitoes. Must be able to keep records and follow a map as well as work outside in various weather conditions. 

Benefits

The starting salary at the time will be $42,575 per union contract.

Mosquito Identification Specialist 1

Brief Description of Job and Division/Department

Morris County Department of Public Works, Division of Mosquito Control is currently accepting applications for Mosquito Identification Specialist 1. Under the close supervision of a supervisory official, identifies species of mosquitoes; tabulates, summarizes and plots results of identification and numbers for use in directing control activities; may assist with mosquito extermination and control work; does other related duties as required.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Sorts light trap collections and separates mosquitoes according to species and genus using a microscope and mosquito key.
  • Prepares records of counts and species for use in mosquito control.
  • Prepares analysis of findings and may send copies to the appropriate State and county agencies.
  • Prepares maps indicating trap collections and breeding areas.
  • Maintain and repair surveillance traps. 
  • Prepares charts or tables comparing findings in the area with surveillance findings in surrounding counties and with previous year's records.
  • Inspect and evaluate breeding areas.
  • Prepares clear and informative reports and maintains records and files.
  • Will be required to learn how to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.

Clerk 1

Brief Description of Job and Division/Department

Morris County Department of Public Works, Division of Mosquito Control is currently accepting applications for Clerk 1. Under close supervision, performs routine clerical work involving the processing of documents in a variety of functions; does other related duties as required. The primary responsibilities of this position will be payroll processing, communicating with the public and utilizing specialized software. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Receives, screens, reviews and verifies documents. 
  • Reviews and checks assigned reports, applications, and other documents for corrections and completeness; refers problems to a lead worker or supervisor for resolution.
  • Maintains prepared mailing lists.
  • Sorts, indexes, and files checks, cash stubs, vouchers, requisitions and other materials, numerically, alphabetically, or according to other predetermined classification; maintains such files.
  • Assembles materials for distribution.
  • Fills in and checks form letters, circulars, and forms as directed.
  • Compiles information and/or numerical data. 
  • Provides general, routine information in person and over the telephone; refers complicated or non-routine inquiries to appropriate staff.
  • May enter and/or retrieve information on a computer terminal.

Passaic County Mosquito Control | Inspector Mosquito Extermination


Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $42,389 - $54,185 (commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Job Description: Under direction, performs field inspections to locate and identify mosquito habitat, and applies pesticides to control mosquitoes. Does related work as required.

Examples of work:

  • Performs inspections of larval mosquito habitats (such as swamps, bogs, woodland pools, roadside ditches, retention ponds, artificial containers, or other areas where stagnant water exists)
  • Applies approved pesticides according to specific manufacturer's directions
  • Drives a truck to reach mosquito habitats and to respond to complaints of mosquito nuisance
  • Performs water management/source reduction efforts by hand to reduce larval mosquito habitat
  • Performs unskilled laboring work (such as snow removal, for example) when there is a lull in the inspection assignments
  • Loads equipment onto truck
  • Keeps records of pesticide applications

Requirements:

Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in mosquito control work

Licenses:

  1. Possession of a current and valid license as a 'commercial pesticide applicator' in Category 8B (Mosquito Control), issued by New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, is required
  2. Possession of a current and valid driver's license in New Jersey is required

The Position: 

  

  • Manages the New Jersey Pesticide Safety Education Program by providing pesticide and regulatory information      to a variety of audiences, including farmers, landscapers, pest management professionals, master gardeners, and the public.
  • Develops, delivers, and distributes PowerPoint presentations, NJAES factsheets and bulletins, training manuals, and websites under the auspices of the Rutgers Pest Management Office website.
  • Creates material on pesticide safety and regulations for grower production recommendation guides.
